The reel page is live with 23 short videos among its 63 slides
The reel is a page on this site that shows the engineering updates as a vertical feed of slides, oldest first. It is now live with 63 slides. Twenty-three of them carry a short video that plays muted, with captions.
The short videos are served from a new public storage bucket, and all 23 were uploaded to it. The site's archive was updated with each short's address, so the built page carries the videos. A commit also makes the reel attach a short to an already-built slide as soon as the video feed has one.
Playback was checked in a headless browser sized like a phone. A short starts on its own with the sound off, and a sound control, a like button and a share button sit on the side rail. The slide title sits just under the video's caption line.
The upload runs under a command-line login because the workspace's access token has no permission to write to the storage. A pull request puts the bucket's address in the site's configuration and moves the upload onto that login.
One thing is still open. The bucket's public address is a development address, and the storage provider limits how fast it can be read. A custom domain is the production fix and a small follow-up.
