Mac app now delivers this site's feed, with the old pipeline as fallback
This site's updates are written by software running on a Mac and sent to engineering.satsuma.one. Sending the feed of updates and the live pulse has moved from the older Node pipeline to a Mac app, and that change is merged. The site is serving the app's feed, 105 updates, and a fresh pulse; the Node pipeline now logs that the app does the sending and writes only locally.
The switch has a way back built in: "If the app stops for 15 minutes, the Node pipeline takes over again by itself; to undo the switch, remove the delivery line from pipeline/config.json."
The app also gained an ambient field, an abstract, translucent background of topographic contour lines in violet, warm light and window glass, behind the main window and the onboarding screens, replacing Claude's characters there. Apple's Metal toolchain, about 700 MB, is not installed on the Mac, so the small shader that draws the field is compiled when the app starts; the shipped app works the same way.
The app's branch was then merged into the main line of Composition, the repository where the app is built: 14 commits, merged with their history kept, as earlier Composition merges were. The app running in the menu bar is the merged build. A local copy of Composition was left as it was because it holds an uncommitted change; the Node pipeline still renders short videos from that copy, which does not need the update.
- Moving delivery of the feed and live pulse from the Node pipeline to the Mac app
- An abstract translucent ambient field behind the main window and onboarding
- Compile the small shader at app start instead of installing Apple's Metal toolchain (about 700 MB); the shipped app works the same way
- Merge the Mac app's branch into Composition's main line, keeping history as in earlier Composition merges
- Leave the local Composition copy untouched because it holds an uncommitted change
- The local Composition copy is not updated; it holds an uncommitted change
- The Node pipeline still renders short videos from that copy, which does not need the update
