The App Store build of the Mac app cannot use a Claude Code login

A section titled Shipping a full Mac product was added to the product specification for Composition, a Mac app that works with Claude. A Claude Code session wrote it after being asked what separates the current app from a full macOS product that could reach rank 1 on the App Store.

"The finding that matters most: the App Store version of the app can't use a Claude Code login." The reason is the sandbox: "The App Store requires apps to run sandboxed, and that blocks the app from launching the claude command-line tool."

The section recommends two builds of the same app: one for the App Store, and one for direct download that also allows the Claude Code login. This is recorded in the document as a new decision, as a recommendation, not yet settled. In the App Store build, Claude would connect through an API key, or through Apple's planned Anthropic connection once that ships. Apple Intelligence needs an Apple silicon Mac, macOS 26, and a supported region and language, so other users need a path that uses Claude only.

The section also lists Mac features the app is missing: a menu bar item, desktop widgets, Shortcuts and Siri, sending items in from other apps, approving a piece of work the app is holding for review, straight from its notification, and starting at login. Part of the session's text was cut off, so the full list may be longer.
