The system

Both book sites now send confirmation email through Cloudflare

The two websites for the book, targa.dev and book.satsuma.one, send a confirmation email when someone signs up. Both now send it through Cloudflare's email sending, by way of a shared Worker called book-mailer that has no public URL, and the Resend step was removed from both sites. The work was done by Claude in Claude Code.

targa.dev was enabled to send as book@targa.dev, with Cloudflare's bounce and signing records and a reject policy for unsigned mail. For the other site, sending was enabled on the book.satsuma.one subdomain, as book@book.satsuma.one, and the root satsuma.one was left unchanged. The session gave its reason: "Root satsuma.one already has a DMARC policy used by your Proton Mail, and this setup would replace it. To leave your existing email untouched, I'll send from the book.satsuma.one subdomain instead."

A test signup with the operator's Gmail on each site produced a confirmation email, and Cloudflare accepted both for delivery. That address stays a pending subscriber on both sites until a confirmation link is clicked. The account was already on Cloudflare's Workers Paid plan, which includes 3,000 emails a month, and each new sending domain starts with a limit of 200 emails a day.

book-mailer was updated and redeployed so that emails from the book's email course can carry a one-click unsubscribe link. The course is deployed on Cloudflare but sends nothing yet: its daily sender still expects a Resend key. A separate session owns that move, onto book-mailer and off Resend, and it will make the single next deploy of book.satsuma.one.

Still open: whether both test emails landed in the inbox or in spam, whether replies to book@targa.dev should be forwarded, and whether Cloudflare will refuse the one-click unsubscribe header. Until the course session's deploy, the live book.satsuma.one lacks the one-click unsubscribe and the reworded signup text.
