Per-short videocast files ignored by git instead of deleted

The code behind this site now tells git to ignore the saved videocast scripts and timings for each short, instead of listing them as untracked files. The change is one line in the ignore file. Tested before committing: git lists no untracked files, and the hand-made video script for the Introduction to Satsuma post is still tracked.

The work started as a request to delete untracked folders. Before deleting anything, the session, run with Claude in Claude Code, checked what the folders held and found the saved scripts and timings that the broadcast reads while on air. Deleting them would have meant regenerating the scripts with new model calls and breaking the match between captions and the shorts already published, and the files would have come back with every new short.

The diagnosis was short: "The real problem is that git doesn't ignore them." The ignore line was proposed in place of the deletion, and the operator confirmed it. "Nothing was deleted, so the broadcast still has them."

explored
  • Deleting the untracked folders, as asked; held off after checking, because they hold the saved script and timings for every short, which the broadcast needs, and deleting them would cost model calls, mismatch captions with published shorts, and they would return with each new short
decided
  • Ignore the per-short script and timing files rather than delete them, because the broadcast reads them while on air
  • The operator confirmed the ignore-line approach
