An alert about 513 unread chat messages turns out to be expected
A spam filter for chat groups uses an AI model to read incoming messages, and paid plans for it are not yet available. A session with Claude in Claude Code looked into an alert reporting 513 unread messages from the previous day. All 513 came from one Arabic-language group with no plan, where AI reading is switched off. Free rules still removed 24 spam messages in that group, and the AI reader answers its hourly test call, so nothing is broken.
The alert now shows as resolved because its counter reset at midnight UTC, not because anything changed: "The alert only checks once a group has at least 200 messages for the day, so it cleared on the reset, not because anything changed." It will likely fire again most days while that group stays busy, until paid plans are available. Whether to silence it until then is still open.
